11.25 pm:. Right, that brings us to the end of our coverage for this game. Of course the IPL caravan has just started rolling, so we're here throughout. See you all tomorrow. Till then, on behalf of Varun Shetty, Deiva Muthu and Chandan Duorah, this is Saurabh Somani signing off.

Nitish Rana is the Man of the Match: I thought the ball was in my slot (first ball, off Bhuvneshwar) and luckily I got a four. My game-plan is always that if the ball is in my slot I'll try to hit it. I was backing myself and looking to hit balls. I've been playing spin since childhood, so in a way, it's in my blood.

Eoin Morgan: Delighted. The build up to the tournament has been pretty good. The camp before the tournament, the guys seemed to gel really well. I thought it was magnificent the guys batted today at the top of the order in particularly, Nitish and Tripathi. And the bowling too, couldn't have asked for a better start. It was a tight game against a really tough side. There's a huge amount of thought and structure that goes into decisions on the field. We've got a great head coach and support staff. The IPL is all about results. I think guys buying in to what we are trying to do. Bhajji starting really well in the first over and not playing a part after that but using his experience to guide the others just shows that. Really happy with the start. We were very happy with our score, we thought if we bowled half decently well we should get over the line.

11.16 pm: Presentations coming up.

Aaqib Issa: "Samad is batting way too low. He needs to play the pinch hitter role and should have come in place of Nabi or Shankar, similar to what happened last year in the playoffs, SRH not learning from their mistakes"

Kiran: "Big positive for SRH is that their batsmen are capable of looking like chasing this 187 with out a significant contribution from Warner's bat. A quickfire 25 by Warner would have made alot of difference to this chase"

Prasidh Krishna: I was trying my best, the wicket was slow so I had to do something from my side (on hitting 140+ consistently). We have had a great 10-day camp and from there everybody had been in good nick and it showed. Everyone contributed to the win today. The wickets was slow and not really easy to hit off the length and they did really well (Rana and Tripathi). Lot of games coming into the IPL was a great positive for me, the more games you play the more you understand your bowling. Confidence is upbeat now because I've been coming off a good series. Would like to continue the way I've been doing and contribute to the team's win. Some of the biggest hitters are in my side, I'm fortunate for that.

David Warner: I didn't think there were that many runs in that wicket. They adapted really well. We just mis-executed a little bit (with the ball). And the way that we lost two early wickets but fought hard through Jonny and Manish, was good. If you over-pitched, it came on a little bit. They had some height in their bowling attack, it helped with the cross-seam balls. Good momentum going into the tournament (with the batting), but plenty of games to come. Four games at this venue so we should be getting used to this square.

11.02 pm: So that's a 10-run win for KKR to kick off their IPL 2021. SRH managed to reduce the defeat margin, but they'll have some work to do and combinations to ponder, you suspect. Victory was set up by the batting heroics of Nitish Rana and Rahul Tripathi. Rare off day for Bhuvneshwar Kumar, though Rashid Khan was his usual spectacular self. Bairstow then gave SRH hope in the chase, but some quality defensive bowling at the end, particularly from Dre Russ, meant SRH weren't quite in the chase at the end.

Russell to Pandey, SIX, six to finish, but that won't affect the result, only reduce the margin. Shorter and this time Pandey was ready for it, rocked back and pulled it over deep midwicket.
19.5
1
Russell to Abdul Samad, 1 run, full toss on off, has a big thrash at it, but it squirts from the outside edge to trickle to cover
19.4
1
Russell to Pandey, 1 run, yorker on the fourth stump, drilled to long-on. Still can't find the gaps, Pandey
19.3
1
Russell to Abdul Samad, 1 run, and now he bowled it into the batsman, who can only hoick it to short fine leg
19.2
0
Russell to Abdul Samad, no run, and this one is bowled into the pitch and going away from Samad, he wants to crash it through cover, gets a little under edge to the keeper. If he hadn't touched it, would have been wide
19.1
2
Russell to Abdul Samad, 2 runs, nails the yorker on the fifth stump, sticking to the round the wicket line, dug out to long-off. No timing on it which works in the batsman's favour because they sprint two

22 needed from the last over. I'm guessing Dre Russ will bowl it. Will be tough to get that many off him.

END OF OVER:
19 | 16 Runs | SRH: 166/5 (22 runs required from 6 balls, RR: 8.73, RRR: 22.00)

  • Andre Russell2-0-21-1

Cummins to Pandey, no run, bouncer to end, and a very good one too. Quick, sharp and outside off, Pandey has to fetch the pull from over his shoulder and he can't even connect.
18.5
1
Cummins to Abdul Samad, 1 run, down the track to mess with his length but Cummins kept this back of, and Samad is cramped for room, pulls it to deep square leg
18.4
6
Cummins to Abdul Samad, SIX, boom. What a hit. Cummins went for another yorker, misses the length by just a teeny bit, and Samad, drills it straight back over the bowler, weight on back foot and wrists showing unbelievable power.
18.3
2
Cummins to Abdul Samad, 2 runs, goes for the yorker on middle and leg, Samad goes deep and whips it off his toes through midwicket
18.2
6
Cummins to Abdul Samad, SIX, wallopped. What a hit, first ball. Samad has arrived. Too short outside off, he calmly goes on the back foot and unleashes on that one with a pull over deep midwicket
18.1
1
Cummins to Pandey, 1 run, good pick up pull shot to a back of a length ball, but once again Pandey can't get the placement right and it bounces down to deep square leg

38 needed off 12. Even the man standing behind the wickets now didn't get that many....

END OF OVER:
18 | 6 Runs 1 Wkt | SRH: 150/5 (38 runs required from 12 balls, RR: 8.33, RRR: 19.00)

W
Russell to Shankar, OUT, caught at cover. Dre has really got that angle from around the wicket working for him, and Shankar couldn't quite get properly underneath this as he tried to go over long-off. Ends up with a leading edge that loops up for a simple catch.

V Shankar c Morgan b Russell 11 (10m 7b 0x4 1x6) SR: 157.14

0
Russell to Shankar, no run, wonderful bowling. Nails a yorker that ends up on the sixth stump, with the angle from around the wicket making it really difficult to hit. Shankar swings and misses

Salman Sherazi: "Against the team of Dre Russ, someone has to play his sort of innings if SRH are to win here. So who is going to be Sunriser's Russell?"

17.4
2
Russell to Shankar, 2 runs, carved over cover. Moves across, anticipating a wide outside off ball, so gets in reach of it and gets it over cover. There's protection in the deep though
17.3
1
Russell to Pandey, 1 run, nails the wide yorker this time and Pandey can only drive it to long-off
17.3
1w
Russell to Pandey, 1 wide, and Dre goes too far outside off, from around the wicket, misses the tramline so he'll have to rebowl that
17.2
1
Russell to Shankar, 1 run, drilled back past the bowler, but the field placing is perfect. Long-on is very straight and Shankar has moved across to thump it straight past the bowler, but the fielder is in place
17.1
1
Russell to Pandey, 1 run, low full toss on the stumps, opens his stance and swings hard at it, makes great connection too, but the placement is straight to deep midwicket. Travelled really quickly, a yard either side would have been four

44 needed from 18.

END OF OVER:
17 | 13 Runs | SRH: 144/4 (44 runs required from 18 balls, RR: 8.47, RRR: 14.66)

6
Varun to Shankar, SIX, gets hold of the pull shot that time. Giving himself room again, Varun tries to follow him again but bowls this too short, which means Shankar has the time to rock back and thump a pull shot over deep midwicket. Prasidh the fielder there I think but even though he leapt up the ball went over. Flat and hard.
16.5
2
Varun to Shankar, 2 runs, was giving himself room and his TN team-mate follows him. Shankar has no room to free his arms so short-arm pulls it to deep square leg's left
16.4
1
Varun to Pandey, 1 run, drilled to long-on
16.3
1b
Varun to Shankar, 1 bye, Shankar had no clue about that one. Bowled a quicker one at 92 clicks, but one that hissed and turned so sharply from outside off that even the keeper couldn't gather properly and they get a bye
16.2
1
Varun to Pandey, 1 run, hurried on to him, and his flick goes int he air but there's no one at midwicket. Brings up fifty. Decent innings, but he needs to step it up
16.1
2
Varun to Pandey, 2 runs, fumble from Dre at wide long-off gives them two. Flat bats this length ball through cover, more power than timing.

Ashish: "I will have Samad next just to get the young Indian get some balls to hit out. He can be an asset now and in future if he does some brutal scoring "

- well it's Vijay Shankar who's come out
