END OF OVER:
20 | 6 Runs 1 Wkt | PBKS: 147/8 | RR: 7.35

  • Harpreet Brar3 (3b)
  • Trent Boult4-0-22-1
  • Avesh Khan4-0-34-2

9:13pm 72 runs came off the last six overs, and that has given this score some sort of respectability. Livingstone and Jitesh did their bits, but it was all down to Ashutosh, omitted initially but then making his impact as, well, the Impact Player. Prior to that, Bairstow, Curran, Prabhsimran and Shashank all struggled, either picking the wrong options or not showing enough intent to throw the RR bowlers off their plans.

Speaking of RR, the spinners were the pick of the bunch. Maharaj, in particular, was impressive, bagging a two-wicket haul and only conceding 23 across four overs. Chahal accounted for Prabhsimran, moving to within two of the 200-wicket mark in the IPL. Boult, as always, was exceptional at the top and held his own in the final over, with Avesh and Sen also chipping in.

This pitch, compared to the PBKS-SRH game the other day, does seem a little trickier, although 147 does not seem a lot at this stage. PBKS will have to fight for every run in the field to make this total feel bigger, and to prevent the Royals from making it five wins out of six. Join us in a bit for the run-chase!

Keshav Maharaj: (On Chahal) He has been phenomenal. He is someone I can feed information off, and a privilege to bowl alongside him. (On the pitch) It was starting to get better at the end. It was a bit stoppy at the start. Hopefully we have restricted them to enough and we can chase it down. Not a lot of dew. When the ball got older, it looked a bit truer, and it was more reactive when the ball was newer. Huge privilege to be a part of this team. Learning and trying to evolve my game.

Boult to AR Sharma, OUT, taken at backward point, and Ashutosh's cameo comes to an end! Sharp bumper on leg stump that climbs onto Ashutosh and rushes him for pace. He tries to hack it away but the ball is onto him before he can really start his swing. Clinks off the splice and Maharaj dives forward to complete the catch!

AR Sharma c Maharaj b Boult 31 (20m 16b 1x4 3x6) SR: 193.75

Can PBKS get to 150? One ball left. Ashutosh on strike

Boult to AR Sharma, 1 run, full toss on off stump. Ashutosh heaves it away towards deep backward square leg. He will feel he missed out there

Boult to AR Sharma, no run, looks like a top wide yorker that sneaks just inside the tramlines. Ashutosh left it alone and the umpire was quick to call it a wide. RR have reviewed, though, and they are vindicated. Inside the tramlines, and that is a dot!

4
Boult to AR Sharma, FOUR, this is awesome ball-striking! Boult for the wide yorker but ends up bowling a half-volley. Ashutosh sits deep in his crease and carves it past extra cover!

Boult to AR Sharma, no run, slower bumper on leg stump. Ashutosh swings himself off his feet and the ball seems to graze the glove. Bounces in front of Samson, though

150 very much within reach now. Can the Punjab Kings get there? 66 runs have come off the last 30 balls. Boult will bowl the final over. Long off, deep cover point, long on, deep mid wicket and deep square leg on the fence. Around the wicket

Avesh Khan to AR Sharma, 1 run, wide yorker nailed to perfection. Ashutosh goes well across and opens his bat face to guide it down to deep backward point. Retains strike too

Avesh Khan to AR Sharma, SIX, what a shot that is! Slower delivery dug into the track outside off. Ashutosh reads the variation like the morning daily and slaps it over long off!
18.4
2
Avesh Khan to AR Sharma, 2 runs, top yorker on middle and off. Ashutosh squeezes it out towards short third man, who lines up a throw at the batter's end and misses by a fair distance. Avesh cannot get there to gather it, and PBKS get an extra run. Jaiswal was the fielder on that occasion
18.3
6
Avesh Khan to AR Sharma, SIX, insult to injury! Length on middle and off, and that is right into Ashutosh's arc. Bends his back knee to get under it and mauls it over wide long on!
18.2
2
Avesh Khan to AR Sharma, 2 runs, two fielders go for the same catch again, and this time, RR put it down! Full, angling into the stumps. Ashutosh launches it high up into the air. Just height, no distance. Comes down with rain on it, and Samson goes for the catch along with Avesh. They get in each other's way, and shell the chance

1
Avesh Khan to Harpreet Brar, 1 run, hard length on middle and leg. Brar is cramped for room and pokes it into the mid wicket region

Two overs left. PBKS will be chuffed if they can get to 145 from here. Avesh entrusted with the penultimate over

Chahal to AR Sharma, 1 run, OUT, full on leg stump. Ashutosh tugs it towards deep mid wicket. Livingstone wanted the second but Ashutosh was not as interested. Livingstone has to rush back, and could be in trouble here...In fact, he is indeed an inch short. The throw was not over the stumps but Samson did well to collect it to his left and then flick the ball onto the stumps. Livingstone did seem to take the longer route back to his crease. Either way, this is just what PBKS did not need!

Avesh Khan to Livingstone, FOUR, picks the gap to perfection! Avesh goes for the yorker but errs on the shorter side. Pitches on off and that allows Livingstone to snap his wrists into the stroke. Whips it away perfectly between deep mid wicket and long on!

Avesh Khan to JM Sharma, OUT, soft dismissal! Punjab Kings take a step back after a step forward, again! Hard length outside off. With mid off up, Jitesh thinks he can muscle it over the fielder. The ball, though, gets big on him and he cloths it completely. An easy catch for Parag at mid off, and Avesh is elated. Finishes his celebratory jump right beside Jitesh, who is disappointed at having been dismissed in this fashion!

And, a false start because Jitesh is not happy with the movement behind the bowler's arm

Avesh to bowl the 17th. PBKS have a bit of momentum now
