Hayley Matthews: Definitely my best score, definitely up there with one of the best innings. Pretty happy I can get some runs at the top. We have Williams who was out with a concussion, Courtney Walsh gave me a call yesterday and told me I was batting up the order. I'm one who is happy to do anything for the team. Glad that it's worked. The wicket is very good, 260 is just above par there. Our job got easier because of that. Little soreness that's it [on her hamstring]. Hopefully I can carry this form into the rest of the tournament.

5.20pm: West Indies ride on Matthews' ton to make 259. They started off with a flurry of boundaries as Matthews and Dottin attacked a nervy Tahuhu and Jess Kerr. But after the fall of Dottin and Knight, the innings settled down into a familiar pattern. Taylor, Campbelle and Nation all made useful contributions but it was the Matthews show all the way. She was outstanding with her strokemaking both off the front and back foot. Despite a dodgy hamstring - which she pulled while going for a run - she battled through the pain to make a special hundred. Once again New Zealand were sloppy in the field and clearly nervous playing the opening game in front of their home crowd. They have chased well against India recently but will need their highest-ever World Cup chase to win this. Vishal will be back for the chase.

Kapil Baldawa: "What poor batting and running. Ridiculous from WI. Seems like they are overjoyed with 240 already. Poor running. That's 2 all days of the week. Leaving at least 25 on the table. 270 was on"
