4.29pm Australia in a World Cup final and guess what do they do? After seeing through the powerplay, they come out all guns blazing against nobody else but the defending champions. Healy has played many cracking innings in her life, but this one is right on top, in the World Cup final and her second one in a row. Her intent was clear as soon as Charlie Dean came on: attack, attack and attack. She came down the track often, she rocked back to cut and drive, she scooped as well, she drove down the ground, and she bisected the gaps as if she had herself set the fields. Not to forget the contribution from Haynes yet again at the top. She was as steady as ever, started attacking before Healy with her pulls and played the perfect innings Australia needed along with Healy for her 68. Australia changed their line-up according to the situation, Mooney chipped in with 62 off 47 and they could have scored even more had Shrubsole not bowled cleverly in the end by taking the pace off, which gave her back-to-back wickets, to end with 3 for 46 in this mammoth total of 356. In case you missed it early, things would have been much better for England had they not dropped both Healy and Haynes in the same over just after the first drinks break, off Kate Cross. England will admit that's where they let it slip, and you can't give such lives to Australia, that too in a final. My fingers need a massage, so Sudarshanan will be back for the chase...
Healy's 170 is obviously her personal best and her tally of 509 is also the most runs scored in a World Cup
Tarun: "Has there been any instance where a team has won all the matches of World Cup and clinch the title ??" Sampath tells me Australia did it in 1997 too
Abid: "Probably the first time a team has scored 350 without hitting a 6. Would love to see the stats on that" Sampath has all the answers; it happened in that match in 1997
David: "I've been watching the game with my two young sons - how amazing to see these awesome Australian women play at their peak and to hear them appreciate what they've been able to watch."
Raj Deshpande: "If there's one thing that the Aussies taught other teams today was how to play Ecclestone. In the first game Aussies scored 77 and today they scored 71 against Ecclestone. And the lesson they taught? Use your feet. Don't play just from the crease. Get out of the crease and meet the ball couple of steps down the pitch. Absolutely brilliant. "
Shrubsole for the last
