"It's quite hard to put everything that's happened over the last couple of days," a relieved Bavuma says. "There was a bit of it at the back of the mind but we had a job to do and we had to dig deep. I was a bit tense but I had confidence in David, he hadn't done in a long time for us to credit to him. He's got one of the most beautiful swings, like a golf swing. Shamsi is a big player for us, a weapon, we've seen wristspinners are always effective in this format. I took on the responsibility to finish it off and the wicket wasn't an easy one but someone had to take it till the end. The shot was on and I was a bit irritated with myself that I wasn't able to execute."

"It was enough to defend for Lahiru," Shanaka says. "He was bowling yorkers and he was superb in the practice games which is why I went with him. Credit to South Africa batsmen, they finished really well. Nissanka has been classic, he showed in this tournament as well. He's got a bright career and is a real prospect for Sri Lanka ahead. It's really hard for us after this game, next two games we hope to keep our pride."

Right, so my TV pictures have switched to the second game, so join us for that, but this is it for our coverage of this superb afternoon game. Thanks for joining, and see you again soon.

Vasant: "Well we're finally getting some close matches -- but its still the side chasing that is winning!"

END OF OVER:
20 | 8 Runs 2 Wkts | SL: 142/10 | RR: 7.10

  • Maheesh Theekshana7 (3b)
  • Anrich Nortje4-0-27-2
  • Dwaine Pretorius3-0-17-3

Sri Lanka end with 142, one fewer than West Indies managed against South Africa a few days ago. South Africa will feel they can chase it, but have they let Sri Lanka get too many runs at the back end? Tune in in about ten minutes to see how the chase goes

Nortje to Kumara, OUT, swing and a miss. Chameera ran through trying to get a bye, but de Kock tosses it back to Nortje, who effects an easy run-out on the non-striker's end

CBRLS Kumara run out 0 (4m 1b 0x4 0x6) SR: 0.00

Sam B: "Pretorious finishes with exact same figures from the last game - 3/17."

Ranga : "Cricinfo projected scores are damn good and correct " Well, thank you sir!

Nortje to Chameera, OUT, top of off! Chameera missed, Nortje hit! Great delivery at pace beats the lower order batted and the offstump is rattled

PVD Chameera b Nortje 3 (10m 4b 0x4 0x6) SR: 75.00

Sarun: "It's always good to have a sixth bowling option. "

Nortje to Theekshana, 1 run, driven on the up to long-on for a single
19.3
4
Nortje to Theekshana, FOUR, well he had no idea how he hit that or where it went. Did nothing with that short ball, almost tried to defend. But it takes the outside edge and races past a vacant first slip through for four
19.2
2
Nortje to Theekshana, 2 runs, banged into the surface, cramped him for room but he squeezes it into a gap in the onside and races back for the second

Pretorius to Chameera, 1 run, smeared it to the cow corner boundary, where smart work helps him keep it from going to the boundary

Siripala Ayya: "Jheez thanks Kevin.."

Pretorius to Chameera, 2 runs, swiped away to the onside. Chameera gets off the mark with a couple

Pretorius to Nissanka, OUT, and Pretorious' Midas touch works again! Slower ball gave Nissanka absolutely nothing to work with. He tried to muscle it over deep midwicket, but only found Nortje on the boundary

P Nissanka c Nortje b Pretorius 72 (92m 58b 6x4 3x6) SR: 124.13

Pretorius to Nissanka, no run, tried to reverse sweep it over short third, and misses completely. Yells out an expletive I think I'd best not repeat here

Kevin: "Wow Nissanka superb batting, could that potential stumping be the turning point of this game?" Looking like a huge moment now, isn't it?

W
Pretorius to Karunaratne, OUT, Pretorious helps himself to another wicket with a slower ball. van der Dussen takes a running catch coming in from long-on. Stems the bleeding somewhat, South Africa will hope, but it's Nissanka back on strike now and Sri Lanka will just go for it these final ten deliveries

C Karunaratne c van der Dussen b Pretorius 5 (9m 5b 0x4 0x6) SR: 100.00

Dimkesh: "Sri Lanka will have a chance with anything above 145. If Wanindu and Co. get a few wickets upfront then there's a very real chance of South Africa doing a South Africa today"

18.1
2
Pretorius to Karunaratne, 2 runs, placed to wide long-off and they come back for two

Rabada to Nissanka, FOUR, another four; this ones blasted through extra cover. Nissanka had given Rabada a bit of a beating here. 17 off this over, and now Sri Lanka very much on track for 150
17.5
4
Rabada to Nissanka, FOUR, slower ball, but what a shot from Nissanka. Pulled to square leg for four, and Nissanka is keeping Sri Lanka competitive in this contest. These runs will be pivotal two hours from now
17.4
1
Rabada to Karunaratne, 1 run, driven through the covers
17.3
1
Rabada to Nissanka, 1 run, uppish, backward point thought he was in business. Rabada went wide so it just scooped up into the air
17.2
6
Rabada to Nissanka, SIX, that's a shot and a half. Rabada went full pace at that; Nissanka caught it beautifully on the bat and targeted the longer boundary around cow corner, clearing the fence

1
Pretorius to Karunaratne, 1 run, took the face off that one, and that gets him off the mark. 11 off the over, which Sri Lanka will take despite the wicket, I'd presume

Rony Simon: "Shocked and perplexed why Lankans do not play Dhananjay Silva. He can anchor the innings and also be useful with the ball. "

16.5
1
Pretorius to Nissanka, 1 run, slapped into the offside for a single
16.4
W
Pretorius to Shanaka, OUT, the slogging has to comes to an end, though, with Kagiso Rabida taking a catch at sweeper cover. That wide line forced Shanaka to try and smash it through the offside, but it's at the end of his range so much harder to get enough power on the shot

MD Shanaka c Rabada b Pretorius 11 (15m 12b 2x4 0x6) SR: 91.66

16.3
4
Pretorius to Shanaka, FOUR, streaky! It's the outside edge that just hits Quinton de Kock's fingertips and races away to the boundary behind him. Three fours in four deliveries for Sri Lanka!
