Bjorn: "IPL stint has done Nortjie wonders in terms of his confidence. He's up for it this tournament that's for sure!"

PK: "It's like a football tournament where every match is 5-0 at half time....." -- Harsh, but a grain of truth in there. This South African performance, though, has only little to do with the toss, so far.

Anrich Nortje: "We've just been doing the basics. KG was really good today as well. Simple plans, we just tried to bowl a hard line and length. There was a bit of swing today as well, and we utilised it well. I've just been focusing on my lines - where I'm running to, where my arms are going to. [On the NRR calculations] We don't want to take the foot off the gas, so well done to the boys, we did that well."

3.40pm A terrific bowling display from South Africa on a pitch that had something in it for the quicks. Three wickets each for Rabada and Nortje, and one for Pretorius. Tabraiz Shamsi was excellent with his changes of pace as well, and he picked up two wickets including an absolute beauty to dismiss Liton Das. As for Bangladesh, there was really no point during their innings where they looked like they could soak up the pressure and put some back on their opponents. South Africa will now want to go in and finish this quickly to push their net run rate as far up as it can go, and in that might lie a tiny sliver of a chance for Bangladesh. We'll be back very soon with the chase, stay tuned.

Nortje to Nasum Ahmed, OUT, and he finishes it off with a full one at the stumps. Not in the blockhole, but Nasum, backing away to make room, misses on the downswing of his slash. And what's more, he's so far back in his crease that he's disturbed the stumps with his bat. Hit-wicket rather than bowled, I think. Bat hit the stumps before the ball did

Nasum Ahmed hit wicket b Nortje 0 (10m 1b 0x4 0x6) SR: 0.00

Shoriful Islam is the last man for Bangladesh, but he won't be on strike. Nortje stays over the wicket.

18.1
W
Nortje to Mahedi Hasan, OUT, gone, nine down. Hits a hard length outside off, and the ball gets big on Mahedi. Looks to pull, only manages a top edge that loops up into the short extra-cover region. The bowler sprints there himself and takes a simple catch

Mahedi Hasan c & b Nortje 27 (34m 25b 2x4 1x6) SR: 108.00

Loses his action just as he's about to release his first ball, and pulls away in his delivery stride.

Nortje.

Shamsi to Mahedi Hasan, no run, nice change of pace again. Slows it down outside off, and Mahedi is through the reverse-sweep too early, and is hit on the pad
17.4
0
Shamsi to Mahedi Hasan, no run, quick and full wide of off stump. Looks to drag a sweep from there, and bottom edges it on the bounce to the keeper
17.3
6
Shamsi to Mahedi Hasan, SIX, tossed up outside off, and Mahedi continues to fight. Steps out, and gets into a great position, with enough room for his arms to swing freely and launch the ball over extra-cover and it carries all the way over the rope

Nasum Ahmed is in at No. 10.

W
Shamsi to Taskin Ahmed, OUT, tossed up outside off, and that's a poor bit of judgment. Drives almost straight to Bavuma at extra-cover and sets off for the single. Bavuma anticipated well, moved in quickly and slightly to his left, and he had all the time in the world to take aim and take down the stumps at the bowler's end

Taskin Ahmed run out 3 (11m 5b 0x4 0x6) SR: 60.00

17.1
0
Shamsi to Taskin Ahmed, no run, tossed up on off stump, clipped to midwicket

AlistairDiamond: "On this showing it looks like SA have the bowling firepower to take the wicket of the Universe Jos, which is what they have to do to make the semis. That match is set fair to be a cracker!" -- While we're looking that far ahead, Bangladesh could still make a match of this if they can scrabble a few together here.

END OF OVER:

1
Pretorius to Mahedi Hasan, 1 run, slower ball outside leg stump, swept gently towards fine leg
16.4

Pretorius to Mahedi Hasan, no run, slower ball on leg stump, again he denies Mahedi the room he's after. Clipped back to the right of the bowler
16.3
2
Pretorius to Mahedi Hasan, 2 runs, back of a length, angling across to off stump, another slower ball, clipped to the right of midwicket. Maharaj moves quickly to his right and throws at the bowler's end. Misses and concedes an overthrow

Pretorius to Taskin Ahmed, 1 run, back of a length outside off, another slower ball, punched to the right of mid-off

Stays around the wicket to the left-hander.

1
Pretorius to Mahedi Hasan, 1 run, slower length ball on the pads. Saw the batter try to make room and followed him. Forces him to clip it through square leg

Pretorius. Around the wicket to the right-hander.

Kamran: "What if SA and Australia both get superior run rates in their upcoming matches (SA beats England)? We could end up with a situation where England is the side left behind. I realize the odds are slim, but who knows!"

END OF OVER:

Shamsi to Mahedi Hasan, 1 run, tossed up on off stump, and he shuffles away from the line to drive inside-out towards sweeper cover. In the air briefly, but safely to the left of extra-cover
15.5
4
Shamsi to Mahedi Hasan, FOUR, shortish, spinning in from just outside off, and that's good placement from Mahedi. Rocks deep in his crease and swivels through the hips to pull and find the gap between deep midwicket and long-on
