3:38pm An innings that seemed stuck in the quicksand throughout and unsurprisingly, went nowhere. Sri Lanka adopted a very cautious approach against the new ball and that did not pay off. Athapaththu fell cheaply, as did Gunaratne and the lack of run-scoring at the start meant Australia felt no pressure. Samarawickrama and Nilakshika made 20s but those knocks came at sub-100 strike rates. The only positive to accrue is that SL bettered their score from the other day, which, truth be told, is not saying a lot.
Australia were pretty good with their bowling plans, barring the odd freebie. What would have frustrated them, though, were the extras they conceded. Schutt and Brown bowled a fair few No balls and they ended up giving 13 extras in total (out of a score of 93). Speaking of Schutt, she bagged three wickets, with Molineux also picking up two. Gardner and Wareham were also among the wickets and Australia, going into the break, will be very happy with where they are placed. Join us in a bit for the run-chase!
