Sources told ESPN.com's Marc Stein that Evans, 27, will sign a two-year deal for the veteran's minimum.
The 6-foot-9 Evans, the 2012 NBA slam dunk champion, spent the first five seasons of his career with the Utah Jazz.
The most productive season of Evans' career was in 2013-14, when he averaged 6.1 points and 4.7 rebounds in 18.3 minutes per game. He fell out of the Jazz's rotation last season, appearing in only 38 games.
The Mavs view Evans as a developmental project with the potential to contribute immediately as a versatile, athletic frontcourt reserve.
