Cloud9 has raised $53.7 million in a Series B round, the largest fundraising round ever reported by a major esports team, according to documents filed with the United States Securities and Exchange Commission on Monday. The round was led by Chicago-based firm Valor Equity Partners — whose managing partner Antonio Gracias joins the Cloud9 board — and also included capital from TrueBridge Capital Partners, Reimagined Ventures and Glassdoor founder Robert Hohman, Cloud9 founder and CEO Jack Etienne told Forbes. Throughout 2018, Cloud9 has accomplished a significant amount of feats in competitive esports, including two championships in major titles Overwatch, with its London Spitfire, and Counter-Strike: Global Offensive. Cloud9 told Forbes it is currently planning to open a 20-30,000-square-foot training facility for its players in Los Angeles.
