The Indian team put up an impressive display on the second day of the Archery World Cup in Shanghai, with the men's compound team entering the final after registering a win against the USA.
The Indian team of Abhishek Verma, Chinna Raju Srither and Amanjeet Singh won by a score of 232-230. They will face Colombia in the final of the team event on Saturday.
Verma will also play the bronze medal playoff with Jyothi Surekha Vennam in the compound mixed team event. They will face the USA on Saturday.
On Wednesday, World No. 13 Verma had finished fourth in the qualification round of the individual men's compound category after scoring 705 with 24 Xs. Verma, who won a silver at the World Cup Final in Mexico in 2015, gained direct entry into the third round of the individual event by virtue of finishing in the top eight. He will face Slovakia's Dejan Sitar in the third round.
Atanu Das finished sixth in the qualification round of men's individual recurve while former world No. 1 Deepika Kumari was in fifth place in the women's section of the individual recurve event. Both of them also entered the third round by ending in the top eight. Deepika will face her compatriot Preeti in the third round while Das will take on Turkey's Erdal Meric Dal.
Six other Indians -- including 15-year-old Divya Dhayal and Asian champion Vennam -- progressed to the third round in the individual events.
This is the first of four World Cups this year and the first big event after last year's Rio Olympics.
