Medals galore for India on Day 6 of the Commonwealth Games. Indian athletes won medals in squash, boxing, judo, weightlifting and athletics to make it a successful day at the Games.
Saurav Ghosal claimed India's first ever singles medal in squash - a bronze after he dominated the contest against England's James Willstrop from beginning to end, winning 11-6, 11-1, 11-4.
It was Ghosal's second CWG medal, having won a mixed doubles silver with Dipika Pallikal in the 2018 Gold Coast edition.
Tejaswin Shankar won India's first athletics medal at the CWG 2022. He cleared 2.22m to seal the bronze in his maiden CWG appearance.
Three Indian boxers, including Nikhat Zareen, advanced to the semifinals in their respective events while Lovlina Borgohain made a shock last eight exit.
With their wins, Zareen (50kg), Nitu Ganghas (48kg) and Mohammed Hussamudin (57kg) confirmed three boxing medals for India.
Olympic bronze medallist Borgohain, on the other hand, was beaten by last edition's silver medallist Rosie Eccles of Wales.
Judoka Tulika Maan won the silver medal after losing against Scotland's Sarah Adlington in the final of the women's 78kg category. Tulika, who won two fights earlier in the day to make it to the final, led for majority of the bout before Adlington pulled off a decisive move, an Ippon, to win the gold.
In weightlifting, Lovepreet Singh (109kg) and Gurdeep Singh (+109kg) won the medals for India. Lovepreet lifted 355kg (snatch - 163kg, clean & jerk - 192kg) to clinch bronze. Gurdeep rounded off India's weightlifting campaign with a bronze medal with a best effort of 390kg (167kg+223kg).
