Welcome to ESPN India's daily blog, where we aim to bring you all the news from the dynamic world of Indian sports: from the wide variety of Olympic sports to franchise leagues.

June has plenty of sporting action taking place - which you can find listed out in ESPN India's sporting calendar.

Boxing: Jaismine Lamboria and Sachin Siwach edge closer to Paris Olympics

Jaismine Lamboria registered a clinical 5:0 win over Switzerland's Anna Marija Milisic in the women's 57kg pre-quarterfinals to get just one win away from a Paris Olympic berth while Sachin Siwach will get another chance to win the quota despite losing his men's 57kg semi-final against 2020 Olympics silver medallist Carlo Paalam in the 2nd Boxing World qualifiers in Bangkok, Thailand, on Saturday.

Jaismine will face Mali's Marine Camara in the quarterfinals where a win will be enough for a Paris Olympics quota. Meanwhile, with just three Paris Olympic quotas on offer in the men's 57kg category, Sachin will now have to face Kyrgyzstan's Munarbek Seiitbek Uul in the play-offs.

India has so far bagged four Paris berths. While Nishant clinched his quota place in Thailand, Nikhat Zareen (women's 50kg), Preeti (54kg) and Tokyo Olympics bronze medallist Lovlina Borgohain (75kg) had confirmed their respective berths by medals at the 2022 Asian Games.

Hockey: India put three past world-champions Germany

Goals from Harmanpreet Singh, Sukhjeet Singh and Gurjant Singh were enough to hand India a 3-0 victory over World Cup winners Germany, still displaying signs of rust after a long spell without competitive action and missing a few big-name players.

Here's Anish Anand with more details from a great day out for Craig Fulton's side in London.

Athletics: DP Manu wins gold in Taiwan Open, still outside Olympic qualification mark

DP Manu clinched the gold medal in men's javelin throw event at the Taiwan Open 2024 with an effort of 81.58m in Taipei on Saturday.

The performance was, however, far from Manu's personal best of 84.35m. It is also less than his season-best effort of 82.06, which he had come up with last month at the Federation Cup in Bhubaneswar when he had finished second behind Olympic champion Neeraj Chopra. Manu, who finished sixth at the World Championships last year, is yet to qualify for the Paris Olympics, the qualification mark for which is 85.50m.

Meanwhile, Nithya Ramraj ran 13.23 seconds to finish second in the women's 100m hurdle event. She ran a personal best of 13.12 seconds during the heat race earlier in the day. In the women's 400m final, VK Vismaya took the third spot, clocking 53.49 seconds.

French Open: Balaji-Martinez reach men's doubles pre-quarterfinals

N Sriram Balaji booked his maiden French Open pre-quarterfinals berth as he and his Mexican partner Miguel Angel Reyes-Varela Martinez beat the pair of Dan Added and Theo Arribage in three sets. The Indo-Mexican duo beat their French opponents 6-4, 3-6, 6-2 in the second round match that lasted one hour and 42 minutes.

In the pre-quarterfinals, Balaji and Martinez may face Australian Open champions Rohan Bopanna and Matthew Ebden if they win their second round match.

Badminton: Defeat for Treesa-Gayatri

Unfortunately, Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand's Singapore Open run comes to and end in the semifinals.

The women's doubles pair were facing world no. 4 Nami Matsuyama and Chiharu Shida of Japan for a place in the final. The Japanese pair started the opening game well, but Treesa and Gayatri fought back to keep the scoreline close. Eventually, Matsuyama and Chida won the first game 23-21.

In the second, it was complete domination by the Japanese pair. They raced ahead and gave no chance to their opponents, winning the second game 21-11.

And with that, it's the end of Indian challenge at the Singapore Open. Not a great one, however, the contingent will hope for a better show in next week's Indonesia Open.
