After a frustrating Game 1 defeat, EnVyUs bounced back Sunday and dominated FlyQuest to claim the 2-1 series win and end Week 4, Day 3 of the North American League of Legends Championship Series in Los Angeles.
The series started with an interesting pick and ban phase that saw the majority of the power picks removed and unorthodox champions surfacing. FlyQuest fell back to Galen "Moon" Holgate's Rengar and Hai "Hai" Lam's Corki that proved successful last split. On the opposing side, EnVyUs was able to secure Rek'Sai for Nam "Lira" Tae-yoo. The game was largely dictated by the junglers as every side lane was heavily pressured. A series of macro-oriented plays in the late game allowed EnVyUs to secure a second Baron, following it up with an Elder Dragon to seemingly seize complete control of the contest. Despite this, FlyQuest's AD carry Jason "WildTurtle" Tran utilized Caitlyn just long enough to hold off the enemy onslaught and win a final teamfight, closing out Game 1 in 50 minutes.
Game 2 saw yet another draft that heavily focused on power picks, once again leaving open many comfort picks. EnVyUs quickly secured Xayah for AD carry Apollo "Apollo" Price while FlyQuest picked up Rek'Sai for Moon. Additionally, Hai surprised the enemy team with a surprise Malzahar mid pick, but it struggled to get much done. The game quickly went in EnVy's favor as mid laner Yasin "Nisqy" Dinçer created a lead with Taliyah and played around the rest of the team to spread his advantage across the map. As FlyQuest fell behind, it tried to create picks with its heavy crowd control, but was unable to do so. Strong play from Apollo and Nisqy allowed the team to dominate in teamfights and take a 25-minute Baron, securing a 12,000-gold lead. With the lead, EnVy had no trouble taking back-to-back teamfight victories and closing out the game in just 31-minutes.
With the series down to a deciding Game 3, FlyQuest drastically changed its drafting strategy, opting to give Ziggs to WildTurtle and Jarvan to its jungler Moon. On the other side, EnVy drafted much more predictably, taking Lee Sin for jungler LirA and putting Nisqy back on Cassiopea. An extremely aggressive early game saw both teams picking up kills left and right, with FlyQuest mid laner Hai doing damage with LeBlanc. Unfortunately, FlyQuest tried to push its lead far too quickly, allowing EnVy to catch them out and win exchanges. Once the lead was in EnVy's favor, the team moved swiftly to take objectives and dominate the map. Excellent mechanics from LirA's Lee Sin continually gave way to kills, allowing the team to take a 22-minute Baron and push its advantage to nearly 15,000 gold just 24-minutes into the game. The result wa a swift teamfight victory at 27-minutes that allowed EnVyUs to close out the series 2-1.
FlyQuest will gun for its second win of the split Saturday when it takes on Dignitas at 6:00 p.m. ET while EnVyUs will look to improve its record Friday when it takes on Phoenix1 at 9:00 p.m. ET.
