Yet another series and OMG remains undefeated, this time taking down DAN Gaming in a hard-fought 2-1 series victory to close out Week 4, Day 3 of the League of Legends Pro League in Shanghai.
OMG (6-0, 12-3 match record) had a clear goal in mind with its team composition in Game 1: dominate teamfights relentlessly. With the bottom lane combo of AD carry Han "Smlz" Jin's Varus and support Liu "Five" Shi Yu's Rakan, OMG managed to execute its goal to perfection. In just about every teamfight, Five landed pinpoint initiations to give Smlz easy targets to shred through all game long, leading to the bot lane duo amassing a combined KDA (kills/deaths/assists) of 10/3/29. DAN simply had no answer for this immense synergy from these two, and not even a trademark 20-minute Baron could prevent the trouncing. Securing back-to-back aces at 23 and 26 minutes, OMG easily locked up the 32-minute win.
DAN didn't appreciate being pushed around in teamfights during Game 1, forcing it to draft a double carry composition into the second game to remedy this. While OMG started off in great control over the game, it made an ill-advised tower dive in the top lane 15 minutes in that led to DAN picking up four kills and a window back into the game. Desperate to recover, OMG tried to fight DAN around the Baron, but once again came up short, with DAN securing three kills and a Baron at 22 minutes. DAN then used the buff to gain an advantage in the form of six more kills in three minutes in the late game to easily lock up the quick, 29-minute Game 2 win.
OMG got back to basics of teamfighting with impunity in the final game of the series, with Smlz's Kog'Maw getting off to a picture-perfect start with an early first blood. Although OMG picked up three more kills at the 12-minute mark, it nearly lost control of the game when DAN fought back with three kills just a couple minutes later. OMG showed off its veteran presence and didn't let DAN get anything off the teamfight win, however. As the game progressed, Smlz paired with mid laner Xie "icon" Tian Yu's Kassadin were simply far too strong for DAN to resist in teamfights. Needing a huge play to get back in it, DAN went for a Baron at 27 minutes, but OMG not only stole the Baron away, but picked up four kills in the process. That was the final piece of the puzzle OMG needed to waltz into DAN's base to finish up the 28-minute win.
OMG will look to continue its undefeated streak against Edward Gaming on Sunday, July 16 at 8 a.m. ET, while DAN will hope to rebound with a matchup against LGD Gaming on Thursday, July 13 at 5 a.m. ET.
