Counter Logic Gaming took what some will consider a massive upset as it was defeated 2-0 by Team Dignitas in Los Angeles during Week 6, Day 2 of the North American League Championship Series.
The series started off with Dignitas debuting its new bottom lane pairing of AD carry Johnny "Altec" Ru on Kalista and support Adrian "Adrian" Ma on Thresh while Counter Logic Gaming opted to use its starting roster in Game 1. The game started off without much action, though DIG found itself quickly picking up objectives thanks to jungler Lee "Shrimp" Byeong-hoon's Nidalee. As kills were traded evenly, CLG's top laner Darshan "Darshan" Upadhyaha found several kills with Gnar, making up his team's only advantage as the rest of his lanes fell behind convincingly. As things slowed down, the objectives previously earned by Dignitas proved fatal to CLG, with the multiple elemental dragon buffs paying dividends in teamfights. CLG continued to struggle with initiation in the late game, even when jungler Joshua "Dardoch" Hartnett's Gragas tried to force one around Baron late in the game. Dignitas capitalized on this deficiency and forced a final fight at 36 minutes, easily taking down the team to start the series off with a victory.
The unimpressive play from Dardoch coupled with the defeat resulted in CLG subbing in Omar "OmarGod" Amin while Dignitas' lineup remained the same going into Game 2. The change proved to not be what CLG needed, and perhaps what was really needed was simply taking Thresh away from Adrian. The early game saw OmarGod struggling to keep up with Shrimp's pressure while Adrian constantly made moves on Thresh, finding his team an extremely early lead. With two early Infernal Drakes in its corner, Dignitas had no trouble forcing fights and dealing huge amounts of damage. Within these fights, CLG's carries quickly died, with Altec's Kalista and mid laner Jang "Keane" Lae-young's Orianna surviving to deal huge amounts of damage. With the game all but secured, Dignitas forced CLG to engage in a desperate teamfight near Baron at 28 minutes, resulting in Altec picking up a quadrakill and easily closing out the game.
