FlyQuest stayed out of the relegation zone with a 2-0 series sweep against Phoenix1 to close out Week 9, Day 3 of the North American League of Legends Championship Series in Los Angeles.

FlyQuest (6-12, 17-27 match record) had a pretty dominant Game 1 performance as it racked up 11 kills and only two deaths. Mid laner Hai "Hai" Lam's Syndra helped the team take over the mid-game as he roamed to pressure the side lanes after getting a lead in the laning phase. Phoenix1 (4-14, 15-31 match record) looked completely outclassed late as its strategy to fight its way back into control only put it further behind.

In Game 2, Phoenix1's early teamfight wins didn't yield many objectives, which kept the gold race close. Around the 20-minute mark, P1's teamfight victories started to knock down turrets, but sloppy macro play allowed FlyQuest to keep close through its split push. Teamfights started to turn in the favor of FlyQuest as it expertly kited during fights, thanks to support Daerek "LemonNation" Hart's Janna, which allowed his team to take control. P1 kept trying to engage, but every attempt was thrown back in its face and ended with FlyQuest chasing down and cleaning up kills. After FlyQuest took a 4-for-0 teamfight, it quickly pushed down mid lane to finish the series.

Both of the teams have had quite the downer of a summer after qualifying for the playoffs during the Spring Split. Phoenix1's fall from grace was especially tough to witness as it has the surefire Rookie of the Year in jungler Michael "MikeYeung" Yeung. With such a shining light in the jungle, it's a shame that the team didn't manage to rise to his level of play. FlyQuest's struggles this split were equally troubling as it was coming off a fourth-place finish in Spring.

Now, FlyQuest will await the conclusion of the playoffs in hopes of making it into the World Regional Qualifiers, while Phoenix1 preps for the Spring Promotion tournament starting on Friday.
