JD Gaming took a shockingly dominant 2-0 sweep over OMG on Friday to close out Week 10, Day 2 of the League of Legends Pro League in Shanghai.
It's safe to say few people expected the struggling JD Gaming to beat former Group B leaders OMG. A nearly perfect series for JDG, however, would have seemed flat-out ridiculous, and yet Friday ended with OMG only picking up two kills across both games. Seriously, OMG only secured two kills in Game 2, and was unable to secure any Elemental Drakes, towers, Barons, or much of anything. With the LPL so close to playoffs, OMG's recent form is deeply troubling, as it seemed to not think at all against JDG. Now, granted, maybe OMG didn't have its heart fully in the game, but it certainly didn't help itself by getting stomped in this series.
Make no mistake about it, OMG got rocked by JDG with frightening ease on JDG's part. Running double marksmen compositions revolving around mid laner Kim "doinb" Tae-sang's Corki in both games, JDG made its mark on the map, holding 4-to-0 tower leads before 20 minutes in both games. It's hard to tell if JDG played phenomenally or if OMG was simply trolling, but head-scratching plays from OMG led to colossal snowballs from JDG. Whenever a team wins a perfect game, something has usually gone horribly wrong for the team on the receiving end, but, when JDG wins a perfect Game 1 and a nearly perfect Game 2, one has to ask: what is wrong with OMG?
Maybe OMG's problem lies in a lack of synergy between jungler Chen "World6" Yu-Tian and the rest of his team, maybe it has nothing to do with World6, it's honestly hard to judge. Regardless of where the blame for this catastrophic loss will be placed, this series has serious consequences for the postseason. WIth the loss today, Royal Never Give Up takes over OMG's hold of the top of Group B, locking in a semifinal bye. Meanwhile, JD Gaming now has a chance to qualify for playoffs if it can win its final game of the season. One thing is for sure, though: this will be a series that OMG and its fans hope it can soon forget.
