Damwon, Invictus earn spots in League of Legends World Championship quarters

Damwon Gaming and Invictus Gaming emerged from Group D at the League of Legends World Championship in Berlin, Germany, on Sunday, setting the quarterfinal matchups.

Damwon swept their three matches, besting Team Liquid, Invictus and ahq e-Sports Club to finish group play at 5-1. Invictus also topped Team Liquid and ahq on Sunday to finish 4-2.

They join Griffin and G2 Esports of Group A, FunPlus Phoenix and Splyce of Group B, and SK Telecom T1 and Fnatic from Group C at the knockout stage beginning next weekend.

In quarterfinal play next Saturday, Griffin will meet Invictus, and FunPlus Phoenix will face Fnatic. The following day, SKT will play Splyce, and Damwon will compete against G2.

The best-of-five semifinals are scheduled for Nov. 2-3 in Madrid, with the best-of-five final to be held Nov. 10 in Paris. The championship team will receive 37.5 percent of the prize pool, set at a minimum of $2,225,000. The runner-up will get 13.5 percent of the prize pool.
