AL EAST

1. Boston Red Sox- pitching has not been great in the first half of the season, and they will probably make an upgrade at the deadline, Ortiz is coming around, the pitching is getting better, and Lowell will return.

All-Star Game

All Star Home Run Derby

pd49ers

By pd49ers -- July 14
I was in high anticipation of the all star game festivities this year, and the home run derby is one of my favorite sporting events every year. Last year Josh Hamilton stole the show with 28 home runs in the first round, but would later lose because his home runs would not carry over to the next round. This year however, they changed the rule so that home runs would carry in to the second round, but not for the final round. Nelson Cruz and Prince Fielder started the derby with 11 homers each, which would give them both a relitivealy easy path the the championship round. Brandon Inge had no home runs, which was very dissappointing considering that he had over 20 in the season so far.

2009 All Star Game from Busch Stadium in St. Louis

pd49ers

By pd49ers -- July 14
The game started off with Barack Obama throwing out the first pitch, and getting it over the plate. The AL started off with Ichiro slapping a single to right in the first at bat off of Tim Lincecum, followed by Derek Jeter getting pegged to put 2 on with no outs. Teixeira hit a fielders choice to bring home Jeter, and Hamilton had a fielders choice to bring home another run to give the AL a 2-0 lead after a half inning. Lincecum was looking shaky and nervous in the first inning, but later grew into the role. Halladay would go 1-2-3 with the NL in his part of the inning.

Why Isn't Ian Kinsler In The All Star Game?

pd49ers

By pd49ers -- July 14
With 24 hours left to vote for the all star game, Ian Kinsler led the AL votes for second basemen, with a slim lead over Dustin Pedroia. Pedroia overthrew Kinsler on the last day of voting, and was named the starter for the american league. In my mind, Ian Kinsler was still going to be a reserve on the team, but Joe Maddon didn't choose Kinsler, instead going with Aaron Hill of the Blue Jays. Ian Kinsler still had a chance in the final vote, but was just beat out by Brandon Inge of the Detroit Tigers. At this point, it seemed like bad luck that he wasn't picked. Then, a golden opportunity came when Pedroia announced that he would be with his pregnant wife Kelli. The AL now only had one second baseman in Hill, and had one more spot to fill.

Rumor alert

MLB Trade Rumors

pd49ers

By pd49ers -- July 16
Today the Boston Red Sox stated that they would love to try to bring Roy Halladay to Boston, but they would wait until the asking price to go down. I personally don't see the Blue Jays trading within the division before the trade deadline. Currently, teams interested in Halladay are dropping out of the discussion because of the steep asking price. The teams that I could still see possibly making the move to get Roy are the Phillies, Angels, and Yankees. If the Yankees are to get him, they would have to trade one of their prized minor league prospects, and possibly Phil Hughes or Joba Chamberlain. The Phillies and Angels would both have to drop the best prospects, which could scare them both off. Like I stated prior, the Blue Jays will not be able to make a deal before the trade deadline, and he will remain a Blue Jay until the offseason, where more trade talks will heat up.
Do you think Halliday is going anywhere? If so, where!

What I want to do

My Things To Do In Sports

pd49ers

By pd49ers -- July 16
When Mike Greenberg does the Fan Feast on sportscenter every morning, I couldn't help but wonder what I would want to do in sports. Here is a list of what I would want to do in no specific order. These are things that are actually possible to do

I would want to be at a World Series game at Fenway Park with good seats. The 2004 and 2007 titles were great and I wish I could have been to one of those games and been a part of that wonderful experience. Read the rest of pd49ers' sports wish list!
