The race format is as follows:

- The race will feature four stages (20 laps / 20 laps / 20 laps / 10 laps), totaling 70 laps, an ode to the 1992 edition of the same distance.

- The goal for all competitors: Earn a spot in the final 10-lap, 10-car stage.

- The winner of each of the first three stages will lock up a spot in the final stage, as long as they remain on the lead lap after the third stage.

- The cars with the best average finish in the first three stages will make up the remaining spots needed to fill the 10-car final stage.

- The remaining 10 cars will be lined up by average finish of the first three stages and given the option to pit. Exit off pit road determines starting order for final stage.

- The winner will be awarded $1,000,000.

The Monster Energy Open will occur Saturday evening prior to the Monster Energy All-Star Race and will include three stages (20 laps / 20 Laps / 10 laps). The winner of each stage will earn a spot in the all-star race.

Kyle Busch wins the Monster Energy All-Star Race: #18-Kyle Busch took the lead from #2-Keselowski on the start of the final segment with 10 laps to go and pulled away to win the Monster Energy All-Star Race at Charlotte Motor Speedway and $1 million.
#42-Laron finished 2nd, followed by #48-Johnson, #41-Busch, #1-McMurray, #4-Harvick, #24-Elliott, #22-Logano, #2-Keselowski, and #11-Hamlin.
#42-Larson won the first two segments, #48-Johnon won the 3rd segment.

Monster Energy All-Star Race Fast Facts:
This is Kyle Busch's first Monster Energy All-Star Race victory and first Monster Energy Cup Series win at Charlotte Motor Speedway.
This is the second Monster Energy All-Star Race win for Joe Gibbs Racing (Denny Hamlin, 2011) and the second for Toyota.
Kyle Busch wins the Monster Energy All-Star Race in his 12th start; the largest number of starts before an All-Star Race win - previous record was held by Tony Stewart with 11 All-Star starts before his win in 2009.
Kyle Larson finished runner-up in the Monster Energy All-Star Race. Larson also won Stage 1 and Stage 2 of the event.
Jimmie Johnson won Stage 3. He also finished the event third, his ninth top-five finish in the Monster Energy All-Star Race - series-most.

Results of the Monster Energy Open: #19-Daniel Suarez won the final segment of the Monster Energy Open at Charlotte Motor Speedway to advance to the All-Star Race. He led all 10 laps in the final segment.
#14-Bowyer, advanced to the All-Star race by winning the first segment, #21-Blaney won the second segment.
#24-Chase Elliott moves to the All-Star race by winning the fan vote
#3-Dillon finished 2nd in the final segment, followed by #24-Elliott, #43-Smith, #10-Patrick, #13-Dillon, #6-Bayne, #32-DiBenedetto, #27-Menard, and #38-Ragan.
The first two segments were caution free. There were 2 cautions in the final segment. The first when #34-Cassill spun after being bumped by #24-Elliott to start the segment. The next was with 3 laps remaining. #77-Jones moved inside of Elliott to try to make a pass for the lead, hit the grass on the trioval, damaging the front of the car and causing him to get loose and spin.

PRACTICE & QUALIFYING
(these times in eastern time)

Qualifying for the main event, which returns to Friday night, will again include the wildly popular 'no speed limit' four-tire pit stop. Each team will have three timed laps, one of which will include a mandatory four-tire pit stop with no pit-road speed limits enforced. The five quickest teams will advance to the final round of qualifying to determine starting positions one through five. The team that completes the fastest stop will earn the Pit Crew Competition Award.

The Monster Energy Open field will be set by two rounds of traditional knock-out qualifying, scheduled for Saturday afternoon.
