Right-handed pitcher Collin McHugh has informed the Boston Red Sox he will not play this season.
McHugh had been trying to get into pitching shape after an offseason elbow procedure.
He told the team that because his arm has not bounced back as quickly as he had hoped, he decided he'd be better off spending time with his family.
McHugh had signed a one-year, $600,000 contract with Boston in March. The 33-year-old is 58-43 with a 3.95 ERA in 210 career appearances.
