Yankees place RHP Jake Cousins (pec) on 15-day IL

New York Yankees right-handed reliever Jake Cousins landed on the 15-day injured list on Sunday, retroactive to Friday, with a right pec strain.

In a corresponding roster move, the Yankees recalled rookie right-handed reliever Clayton Beeter from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

Cousins, 30, is 2-1 with one save and a 2.37 ERA in 37 relief appearances this season, with 53 strikeouts and 20 walks in 38 innings. He's in his first season with the Yankees after parts of three seasons with the Milwaukee Brewers.

Beeter, 25, has pitched in one game this season -- his major league debut --and tossed a scoreless inning on March 29 against the Houston Astros. Beeter is a combined 3-1 with a 2.08 ERA, 21 walks and 56 strikeouts in 39 innings over 12 games (seven starts) for the Yankees' Double-A and Triple-A affiliates this season.

Beeter missed a chunk of time with a shoulder injury, but he has not allowed a run in five outings in seven innings in the minors since coming off the injured list earlier this month.

Yankees manager Aaron Boone said Beeter has been "lights out" over his last few outings and that the rookie has "really good stuff."

"He can be a factor," Boone said.
