A featherweight title unification bout between Jose Aldo and interim champion Max Holloway is a "done deal," according to UFC president Dana White.
During a recent appearance on ESPN's 5ive Rounds podcast, White revealed the matchup is in place but did not disclose a date or location.
"[Aldo] is going to fight Max Holloway," White said. "That fight's done, too. I don't remember what date it's on, but it's done. We got that fight done last week."
Shortly after White's announcement, Brazilian news site Combate reported the bout will take place at a UFC 212 pay-per-view on June 3 in Rio de Janeiro. UFC officials have not confirmed the report.
The 145-pound matchup seemed inevitable after Holloway (17-3) won the interim title by knocking out Anthony Pettis in December. However, Aldo's name also was briefly linked to a potential lightweight fight against Khabib Nurmagomedov.
According to Aldo (26-2), the UFC originally targeted the unification bout against Holloway for this weekend's UFC 208 event in Brooklyn, but Holloway was unable to accept that date because of an ankle injury. He is also scheduled to film a movie appearance in March.
Aldo has not fought since he claimed an interim title by defeating Frankie Edgar at UFC 200 last July. He was promoted to the official titleholder in November, after former champion Conor McGregor won the lightweight belt.
Aldo has suffered just one defeat since 2005, a 13-second knockout loss to McGregor in December 2015. He threatened to retire from MMA in 2016, after his demands for a rematch against McGregor went unanswered. McGregor is out indefinitely as he awaits the birth of his first child.
Holloway, 25, is on a 10-fight winning streak, including victories over Pettis, Ricardo Lamas and Cub Swanson. Holloway also has a prior loss to McGregor, by unanimous decision in 2013.
