An undisclosed injury has forced UFC flyweight Paige VanZant to withdraw from a scheduled fight against Jessica Eye at UFC 216 next week in Las Vegas.
Officials confirmed the fight cancellation to ESPN on Monday. A replacement opponent will not be sought for Eye. MMAFighting.com first reported VanZant's withdrawal.
VanZant (7-3) has not yet fought in 2017. She suffered a first-round submission loss to Michelle Waterson last December, in a headlining role at UFC Fight Night in Sacramento.
The 23-year-old has fought exclusively in the 115-pound strawweight division in the UFC, but is moving up to the UFC's newly opened 125-pound weight class. Eye (11-6) was coming down from 135 pounds.
An interim lightweight title fight between Tony Ferguson and Kevin Lee will headline UFC 216 inside T-Mobile Arena. Officials have not yet announced how Monday's fight cancellation will affect the pay-per-view lineup.
