UFC welterweight Nick Diaz has been arrested and charged with domestic battery and felony domestic battery by strangulation.
An individual identified as Nickolas R. Diaz was detained in Clark County Detention Center on Friday in Las Vegas, according to online records.
"UFC is aware of the recent arrest of middleweight athlete, Nick Diaz," the promotion said in a statement. "The organization does not tolerate domestic violence and requires all athletes to adhere to the UFC Fighter Conduct Policy. Every athlete is deserving of due process and this situation, as with any official allegations, will be duly reviewed and thoroughly investigated by an independent party."
An LVPD spokesperson told ESPN the individual is still in custody and being held on $18,000 bail.
According to police, the arrest stems from an incident that occurred at approximately 7:20 p.m. on Thursday. A court appearance has been scheduled for Saturday morning, according to online records.
Diaz (26-9) hasn't fought since January 2015. He was suspended for one year by the United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) for missing multiple drug tests, but he was reinstated as an eligible fighter last month.
