Yair Rodriguez will no longer compete in a highly anticipated UFC 228 matchup with Zabit Magomedsharipov due to an undisclosed injury, sources confirmed to ESPN following a report by MMA Brasil.
The UFC is actively looking for a replacement opponent to fight Magomedsharipov on that Sept. 8 card.
The initial featherweight matchup squared off two of the promotion's rising stars in Rodriguez and Magomedsharipov.
Rodriguez (10-2) is coming off a second-round TKO loss to Frankie Edgar at UFC 211 in May 2017. He previously won his first six UFC fights.
Magomedsharipov (15-1) has not lost a professional fight since April 2013. He has won all three of his UFC bouts since signing last year, most recently a unanimous decision win against Kyle Bochniak at UFC 223 in April.
UFC 228 is headlined by a welterweight title fight between Tyron Woodley and Darren Till, as well as a women's flyweight title bout between Nicco Montano and Valentina Shevchenko.
Information from ESPN's Ariel Helwani was used in this report.
