Linebacker Jason Pierre-Paul is going back to Tampa Bay on a two-year, $27 million deal, a source told ESPN's Adam Schefter.
The Buccaneers announced on Monday that Pierre-Paul was re-signed to a multiyear deal, but the team didn't reveal the terms.
Pierre-Paul went from suffering a fractured neck in an auto accident in April 2019 to starting the 2019 season on the reserve/non-football injury list to registering 8.5 sacks in 10 games for the Buccaneers.
Pierre-Paul, who turned 31 in January, suffered the injury last offseason when his Ferrari spun out of control on a South Florida freeway and hit a median. Police determined that rain was a factor.
He decided to forgo surgery, which would have likely prevented him from playing in 2019, and instead chose to rehabilitate his neck so he could rejoin the team.
A two-time Pro Bowl selection, Pierre-Paul also missed eight games for the New York Giants in 2015 after a July 4 fireworks accident mangled his hand so much that it required the amputation of his right index finger.
The Bucs traded for Pierre-Paul in 2018, sending a third-round draft pick to the Giants and swapping fourth-round selections. That season, he recorded 12.5 sacks, becoming the first Bucs player since Simeon Rice in 2005 to record double-digit sacks in a season.
In 10 NFL seasons, he has 518 tackles in 137 games, with 79 sacks, 16 forced fumbles, 8 recoveries and 2 interceptions. He also has three defensive touchdowns.
