Ben Hunt confirms return to Brisbane Broncos

Star half Ben Hunt will start the 2025 season with his former club the Brisbane Broncos, after agreeing to a two-year deal.

Hunt has been the subject of much speculation since the St George Illawarra Dragons agreed to release him from the final year of his contract. Sydney Roosters and Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs were both believed to be courting the Queensland and Australia half, after it was reported that he had back-tracked on his desire to return to Queensland.

It was believed that the Broncos would struggle to fit him in under their salary cap, after deciding to ride out any suspension dished out to Ezra Mam. They have somehow managed to put an attractive offer on the table, and Hunt has reportedly informed coach Michael Maguire that he will return.

Mam is expected to miss the majority of the 2025 season and Hunt will pull on the No. 6 jersey for the Broncos. Current halfback Adam Reynolds has been struggling with injuries as he heads into the final year of his contract and Hunt would be the perfect replacement in the No. 7 jersey as well. He is also able to play dummy-half either as a starting hooker or the ideal No.14.

Hunt left the Broncos at the end of the 2017 season to play the next seven seasons with the Dragons. His tenure at the Big Red V was filled with rumours of dissatisfaction as coaches came and went and the club continually struggled. He rejoins the Broncos who are just two years removed from a grand final appearance where they very nearly knocked over the Panthers.
