The Sushil Kumar-Narsingh Yadav tussle continues to drag on, with the Delhi High Court scheduling yet another hearing for Thursday, following Wednesday's proceedings.
Sushil had moved court on May 16 seeking the conduct of a trial bout against Narsingh to determine India's entry in the 74kg wrestling event at the Rio Olympics. Narsingh had won the quota at the World Championship in Las Vegas last September.
Sushil, on his part, maintains that he should be offered a chance for a trial since he was injured during the Olympic qualifying events; he has not taken part in a competitive event since winning gold at the 2014 Commonwealth Games.
During Wednesday's hearing, Sushil's counsel argued in favour of trials citing that it was a selection procedure followed internationally in countries like USA, Canada and Russia, and that there was no reason why India should be an exception. The court, however, pointed out that the focus should be on practices followed in India, not elsewhere.
The men's wrestling team, meanwhile, will now travel to Bulgaria for training from June 6 to 20, instead of Poland as was originally scheduled. The Wrestling Federation (WFI) did not receive any confirmation from Polish authorities, which prompted a change in venue.
The women's team is already set to train in Bulgaria. Sushil, unaware of the change in itinerary, had approached the court requesting to be sent to Poland as part of the team as a standbye. "It's likely that we may send the men's team to Colarado as well after Bulgaria," a WFI official said.
