Charlotte Dujardin has become Britain's most decorated female Olympian after claiming her third individual Olympic dressage medal on Wednesday.

Dujardin put down an impressive performance with new horse Gio in the Grand Prix freestyle, scoring 88.543 to clinch bronze.

"I wasn't going to go down without a good fight. I finished and it was the biggest adrenaline rush ever," Dujardin said. "[Gio] didn't make a mistake. He gave me so much."

"I was literally throwing him from one thing to another thing, and he just keeps going. What he has done is phenomenal.

"It's as good as previous Olympics, it is as good as a gold medal. A horse that has such little experience. I feel so emotional. He had no idea what he was doing, but he just goes in there and does it."

The 36-year-old, who won two golds in London 2012 and claimed gold and silver in Rio 2016, now has six Olympic medals to her name.

Dujardin won her fifth Olympic medal on Tuesday, taking bronze in the team dressage event, which saw her equal rower Dame Katherine Grainger's and tennis player Kathleen McKane Godfree's medal counts.

"I can't believe it. To be level with Katherine Grainger was pretty impressive but now I've actually beaten it," Dujardin added.

"I can't quite believe it, I'm incredibly proud and a bit speechless. I just don't know what to feel."

Team GB's Carl Hester and Charlotte Fry also competed in the individual event following their bronze medal win in the team event alongside Dujardin.
