2008 Outlook: In Connecticut, everything hinges on the acorn crop.
A poor acorn crop usually results in higher hunter success. When acorns are more plentiful, the deer can stay holed up in a limited range and be tougher for hunters to target.
Fortunately for hunters, the state biologist's office predicts the acorn crop to be "spotty, and relatively low by the time gun season comes around."
Yield is expected to be higher than last year, provided rain and wind stay away from opening weekend. Ever the wildcard, good hunting conditions will bring the hunters out en masse, while poor weather can have a dramatic effect on the deer harvest.
