With a place in the WV1 on the line, Wallaroos coach Jo Yapp has turned to Australia's youngest debutant ever Caitlyn Halse for her side's must win clash against the United States on Friday night.
At just 17-years-old Halse will become the youngest Wallaroos or Wallabies player in history when she runs out in the No.15 jersey overtaking the previous age record set by Sharyn Williams in 1994 as she replaces the experienced Lori Cramer at fullback.
Bursting onto the scene of the Super Rugby Women's competition last year, Halse took her game to another level in 2024, setting up and scoring several tries, while also displaying a deeper knowledge of the game. Her astute kicking game will also add an extra edge to the side after Cramer and Arabella McKenzie failed to execute last week.
"Despite the result, we took a lot of positives from our first hit out. We are also aware of our areas to work on and the players have worked really hard on these this week," Yapp said.
"We have made a couple of changes, Caitlyn comes into the side to make her Test debut. She has impressed at Super W level and we are all excited to see her gain her first cap."
Elsewhere, Yapp has named a relatively unchanged side with just two more straight swaps between the bench and the starting line-up after her side's 33-14 loss to Canada in Sydney last weekend.
Up front Eva Karpani will move to the starting side pushing Bridie O'Gorman to the bench, while last week's debutant Samantha Wood has taken over at scrumhalf with Layne Morgan moving to the reserves.
After making their debuts off the bench last week, Sally Fauesaina and Hera-Barb Malcolm Heke have retained their spots, while Tabua Tuinakauvadra has dropped out of the squad to make way for Cramer on the bench.
Wallaroos line-up: Caitlyn Halse, Maya Stewart, Georgina Friedrichs, Trilleen Pomare, Desiree Miller, Arabella McKenzie, Samantha Wood, Piper Duck, Ashley Masters, Siokapesi Palu, Michaela Leonard, Kaitlan Leaney, Eva Karpani, Tania Naden, Brianna Hoy.
