The Waratahs have locked in another key piece of their backline puzzle, but veteran forward Jed Holloway has been granted a release and will not return in 2025.
NSW on Wednesday announced the re-signing of fly-half Tane Edmed, who is currently enjoying a stint with North Harbour in New Zealand's provincial competition, on a one-year deal.
Edmed will now look to cement his position in backline that will also include Rebels signings Andrew Kellaway and Darby Lancaster, Roosters star Joseph Suaali'i, and Wallabies rookie Max Jorgensen.
"I'm extremely happy and excited to sign with the Tahs for another year," Edmed said.
"The opportunity to wear the sky blue and represent my friends and family in my home state is something I don't take for granted.
"I love the club and the people I get to work with every day.
"I'm already looking forward to building my game under the new coaching staff and helping take the Waratahs back to where we belong."
Edmed's one-year extension continues a positive offseason for the Waratahs, who announced former Fiji coach and Wallabies assistant Simon Raiwalui as director of performance, before they then locked in title-winning Brumbies coach Dan McKellar as Darren Coleman's replacement.
The Waratahs finished last in 2024 after managing only two wins, but they will head into next season with high expectations given their offseason recruitment, which also includes Wallabies Rob Leota, Taniela Tupou and Isaac Kailea.
"We're delighted to have Tane commit to our club for the 2025 season," Raiwalui said.
"Tane is a shining example of a local junior who progressed through the Waratahs development pathways to make his mark in Super Rugby.
"He understands what it means to pull on the Waratahs jersey and we are genuinely excited about what he can deliver for the members and fans next season."
NSW will however be without Holloway, who requested an early release from his contract to take up an offer overseas.
Holloway returned to the Waratahs at the start of 2022 having previously played for the franchise between 2015 and 2020, bringing up his 100th game along the way as he also achieved Wallabies selection under Dave Rennie.
Holloway had originally signed on until the end of 2025, but after falling out of favour under now-former Wallabies coach Eddie Jones last year and then missing selection in Joe Schmidt's squad this season, the versatile forward was keen to seek opportunities elsewhere, which will most likely be in the United States.
