Jimmy Spencer treble downs nine-man Guiseley as Mansfield progress
Jimmy Spencer opened his Mansfield account in style after scoring a hat-trick to guide the League Two side to a comfortable 3-0 win over nine-man Guiseley in the FA Cup second round.Spencer had failed to score in his previous 16 matches for the Stags but grabbed the headlines as Darren Holden was dismissed in the first half for the visitors, with Chris M'Boungou also seeing red five minutes into the second half.In a one-sided first half, goalkeeper Jonathan Maxted made a string of important saves for the National League visitors to keep Mansfield at bay. However, resistance was broken in the 31th minute when Paul Anderson hooked a superb cross from the right wing for Spencer to bury a close-range header.Holden's dangerous tackle on Spencer eight minutes later left his side with a mountain to climb as Guiseley were reduced to 10 men.M'Boungou followed him down the tunnel after a second bookable offence before Spencer doubled his tally in the 52th minute with cool finish from Chris Hamilton's cutback.Spencer completed his hat-trick from the penalty spot, sending Maxted the wrong way after Danny Lowe had hauled him down to send Mansfield into the third round.
