Kieran Dowell strikes as England U21 beat Mexico to win Toulon Tournament

England under-21s secured a third successive Toulon Tournament title after coming from behind to beat Mexico 2-1.

Roberto Alvarado put Mexico ahead after 80 seconds with a scruffy finish from Eduardo Aguirre's cross.

And they could have extended their lead through Manchester City's Uriel Antuna soon after.

But England drew level when goalkeeper Jose Hernandez failed to catch Jake Clarke-Salter's throw-in and Dael Fry tapped into an open net from close range on 32 minutes.

Four minutes later Dowell converted a low cross from Eddie Nketiah to complete the turnaround as England came from behind to win again, having done it in the semifinal against Scotland.

Aidy Boothroyd's side could have had a calmer run to the title in Martigues, France had Tammy Abraham not hit the woodwork in the second half.

Mexico's Diego Lainez, who turned 18 on Saturday, was named the tournament's best player, and England's Freddie Woodman was named the best goalkeeper.

England, who have won the tournament seven times, defeated Ivory Coast on penalties a year ago and France in the final in 2016.
