Burnley advance past Aberdeen in Europa League with Cork winner
Jack Cork and Ashley Barnes scored goals in extra time to help Burnley beat Aberdeen 3-1 to advance 4-2 on aggregate in the Europa League on Thursday.
Tied 1-1 on aggregate in the second qualifying round going into the second leg at Turf Moor, Chris Wood got the hosts off to the perfect start, scoring in the sixth minute to give his team the early advantage.
But Lewis Ferguson pulled Aberdeen level on 27 minutes, scoring from a spectacular bicycle kick after a poor headed clearance from the Burnley defence.
Sean Dyche's team, back in European competition for the first time in 51 years, couldn't find the winner in regulation, but the 30 minutes of extra time will have delighted the home fans.
Cork headed home from a Charlie Taylor cross in the 101st minute, before Barnes put matters to rest from the spot after Scott McKenna was whistled for handball in the 114th minute.
Burnley travel to Turkey to face Istanbul Basaksehir in the next Europa league qualifying round and a victory over the two legs would set up a playoff tie for a spot in the group stage.
