Trinidad, Guyana end Gold Cup campaigns with draw
Kevin Molino's 80th-minute equalizer salvaged a 1-1 draw for Trinidad and Tobago against Guyana in Kansas City, Kan., on Wednesday, in both team's Group D finale at the CONCACAF Gold Cup.
Neil Danns, who scored Guyana's first two goals of the tournament in a 4-2 loss to Panama on Saturday, opened the scoring in the 54th minute. Dribbling from the left corner of the 18-yard box, Danns cut inside and curled a right-footer off the underside of the crossbar near the top right corner.
Molino answered 26 minutes later. He brought down an over-the-top through-ball with his chest, used a touch to evade keeper Quillan Roberts -- who froze when it appeared he could have scooped the ball -- and tapped a left-footer into the empty net. It was the country's only goal of the tournament in three games.
Both teams had already been eliminated from contention after losing their first two matches, but Guyana managed its first-ever Gold Cup point in its first appearance in the tournament. It also took third place in Group D on a goal-differential tiebreaker, with Trinidad and Tobago finishing last.
