Hanna Lundkvist equalizes for San Diego with no-look header

Hanna Lundkvist scores off the set piece with her back to goal for San Diego.

San Diego Wave FC and NJ/NY Gotham FC played to a 1-1 draw on Sunday at Snapdragon Stadium. Ella Stevens of Gotham scored the opening goal in the first half, and San Diego's Hanna Lundkvist equalized late in the second half.

Stevens scored at the 25th minute with a right-footed shot from the center of the box into the top left corner, assisted by Jenna Nighswonger. The lead set an aggressive tone for Gotham throughout much of the game.

For the Wave, Lundkvist not only secured their lone goal but also was active defensively despite receiving a yellow card earlier in the match. Her header at the 64th minute from close range came off a cross by Savannah McCaskill following a corner kick.

Other notable contributions for San Diego included Makenzy Doniak's two attempts on goal saved by Ann-Katrin Berger, and solid midfield play from Danielle Colaprico and Emily van Egmond. Goalkeeper Kailen Sheridan made several saves.

Gotham's Lynn Williams consistently pressured San Diego's defense with numerous shots on target that were ultimately saved by Sheridan. Rose Lavelle provided fresh energy off the bench but couldn't convert her chances into goals.
