Red Stars score two goals in two minutes vs. Wave

Mallory Swanson and Jameese Joseph combine for two Red Stars goals in two minutes vs. the San Diego Wave.

Two second-half goals from Mallory Swanson and Jameese Joseph propelled the Chicago Red Stars to a 3-0 win over San Diego Wave FC at Snapdragon Stadium on Friday in San Diego.

Chicago took an early lead in the 42nd minute when a defensive mishap led to an own goal by Naomi Girma. In the second half, Swanson doubled Chicago's lead with a left-footed shot into the top left corner of the net in the 67th minute, assisted by Joseph. Just two minutes later, Joseph added another goal from close range.

San Diego had opportunities but failed to capitalize. Alex Morgan missed a penalty kick after Sam Staab was penalized for a handball inside the box. Despite several attempts on target from Jaedyn Shaw and Savannah McCaskill, they couldn't find their way past Alyssa Naeher in goal for Chicago.
