PSG start Coupe de France defence with simple win

Paris Saint-Germain started their Coupe de France defence with a 4-0 win at fifth-tier Vendée Fontenay to reach the last 32 on Saturday.

Gonçalo Ramos scored twice after Désiré Doué opened the scoring and Ousmane Dembélé added a penalty.

Fontenay, from an historic town in western France, reached this stage after beating third division Chateauroux 4-1 in round four.

That set up the biggest match in the club's history against PSG, who earlier this week added the Intercontinental Cup to last season's treble.

The visitors went ahead in the 25th minute when Dembélé split the Fontenay defence with a precise through-ball. Doué beat the offside trap to race on to the pass and slid the ball past goalkeeper Noah Renou.

PSG lost 16-year-old defender David Boly to an injury, but were gifted a second goal before half-time.

Ramos was brought down in the area by Antonin Moisdon and Dembélé coolly converted the spot kick.

Fontenay's best chance arrived three minutes after the interval when Guinean striker Joey Millimono got a sight of the PSG goal, but dragged his shot wide.

Luis Enrique's side went 3-0 up five minutes later when Ramos was left with a tap-in from Senny Mayulu's cross.

Renou made a good save from Doué before Ramos grabbed the fourth just before the hour. Ramos was in an offside position, but collected a backpass and rounded Renou before slotting into an empty net.

To their credit, Fonetnay refused to lie down and PSG goalkeeper Renato Marin made a good save to deny Yanis Leriche before Fode Diawara fired over.

Ramos was denied a hat trick two minutes from time when his effort was saved by Renou as the Parisiens had to settle for four.
