ST. PETERSBURG, Russia -- Football authorities in 2018 World Cup host Russia have imposed a two-match ban on a Ghanaian player who was sent off for his reaction to alleged racist abuse.
Spartak Moscow, whose fans were accused of taunting FC Ufa midfielder Emmanuel Frimpong, were not punished.
The incident happened in the opening game of the Russian Premier League season on Friday.
Frimpong gestured with a finger toward the Spartak stands in the 31st minute, for which the former Arsenal midfielder received a straight red card.
He later said on Twitter that he had been "racially abused for the game that I love."
The Russian Football Union says Frimpong was banned for an "offensive gesture to spectators."
Frimpong took to Twitter again after the announcement to voice his displeasure with the verdict, calling the FA's decision a "joke."
Also in other news been banned for two games acceptable on my part for the gesture no problems with that
