Roberto Soldado set for Tottenham exit as Villarreal move nears

Tottenham striker Roberto Soldado has been given permission to fly to Spain amid interest from Villarreal, Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino has confirmed.

Soldado has been targeted for a return to La Liga by Villarreal boss Marcelino, who revealed last month that he is keen on the former Valencia forward.

The 30-year-old has scored just seven Premier League goals since making the £26 million move to White Hart Lane in 2013, and Pochettino confirmed that an exit was now on the cards.

"I think there is a lot of rumours today," he told a news conference. "I think you know sometimes something happens in football, but at the moment nothing to say.

"But if something happens, the club announces at that moment. But so far nothing changes.

"It is true that the club gave permission (for Roberto) to go to Spain. All that happens after, the club announces if something happens or not."

The Tottenham boss also suggested that striker Emmanuel Adebayor and winger Aaron Lennon are free to leave the club, as they are no longer part of his first team set-up.

Adebayor held talks over a move to Aston Villa earlier this month, but they failed to reach a successful conclusion. Meanwhile, Lennon has been told he can leave, after falling out of favour and spending the second half of last season on loan at Everton.

"[Adebayor] is not in my plans and he knows that from the end of last season," Pochettino said. "We have spoken with him and Aaron Lennon and there is nothing new to say."
