Anderlecht forward Matias Suarez has said he is going to do "everything possible" to leave Belgium in June and return to play in Argentina following the bombings on the Brussels airport and a subway station on Tuesday that killed 34 and injured at least 230.
The Argentina international, who has played in Belgium since 2008, said the European Union's capital was quiet after Tuesday's attacks and added that he does not fear for his own safety but is concerned about his family.
"I have lived here for more than seven years and it has been very nice," Suarez told ESPN Radio 107.9 FM in Argentina. "We live well with safety and the people here are very nice.
"But now after this I want to leave. I am thinking about my family. Here at the club there is a lot of security, we are always well cared for. But my daughter must go to school and I am afraid for my family. People here are staying in their homes, the shopping centres are empty."
The 2011-12 Jupiler League Player of the Year said the news was difficult for Belgium because the people "are used to a lot of peace and security." He added that he has felt insecurity after the Paris attacks.
"After what happened in Paris everybody has changed," he said. "People hardly go out because everyone is scared. In Brussels we have a neighbourhood where a lot of jihadists and people who are involved in these terrible things live. Unfortunately, we all knew something like this could happen."
