Klaas-Jan Huntelaar could rejoin Ajax from Schalke at the end of the season

Schalke striker Klaas-Jan Huntelaar has not ruled out a return to former club Ajax in the summer.

Huntelaar, who will be 33 at the start of next season, has been a consistent goal scorer for Schalke since joining the club from AC Milan in 2010. He has scored 122 goals in 211 appearances in all competitions for the Royal Blues, and was the Bundesliga's top scorer in 2011-12 with 29 goals.

Although the forward is under contract at the Veltins Arena until the summer of 2017, reports have suggested that Ajax are interested in taking him back to the club.

The striker has admitted he is open to the idea but for now his focus remains on ensuring Schalke qualify for the Champions League.

"I have not made a final decision," he told Der Westen. "But I am considering it. Right now, only FC Schalke 04 counts for me."

Huntelaar began his career with PSV Eindhoven and has also played for De Graafschap, AGOVV, Heerenveen and Real Madrid.

Schalke currently sit seventh in the Bundesliga table, six points behind third-placed Bayer Leverkusen in the final automatic Champions League berth.

Leverkusen make the trip to the Veltins Arena on Saturday evening and anything less than a victory for Schalke will make it difficult to catch them.

However, the Royal Blues are in a good position to at least reach the Europa League. Seventh place now secures a place in the Europa League with Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund meeting in the DFB Pokal final -- Schalke lead eighth-placed Wolfsburg by six points.
