Manchester City confident Tosin Adarabioyo will sign new deal - source

Manchester City are becoming increasingly confident that defender Tosin Adarabioyo will sign a new deal with the club, a source has told ESPN FC.

The highly-rated 19-year-old's current contract runs out at the end of the season but the club hope he will sign a new deal before the end of the season, sources said.

Talks over a new deal have been ongoing with the centre-back all season but City are running out of time with his current contract finishing at the end of June.

Everton and Celtic were reportedly interested in signing him at the end of the season when he became free, although because of his age, City would have received a compensation fee.

Manchester-born Adarabioyo has been training with the first team all season but has made just three appearances this campaign -- the last in December 2016.

However, manager Pep Guardiola is believed to be a big fan of the centre-back and was very keen to keep him in his first-team squad.

After City's preseason tour to China in August, Guardiola said: "We have to tell Tosin he has a lot of steps to get better, so it's not done, the player isn't done. But he has all the quality.

"He is fast, he is faster than the people can believe it. He's strong in the air. He has the quality to look behind the line for the next step, the next pass, but he has a lot of things to improve and I hope I can help him to develop his skills."

City also have six senior players out of contract at the end of the season -- Yaya Toure, Pablo Zabaleta, Gael Clichy, Bacary Sagna, Jesus Navas and Willy Caballero.

The club said they will wait to the end of the season before deciding on new contracts although ESPNFC has been told that Navas has been offered a new deal.
