Mamelodi Sundowns moved to the top of the Absa Premiership table with a 4-0 victory over Baroka FC in Atteridgeville on Tuesday night.
Sundowns were handsome winners, but the margin could have been even greater as they wasted numerous opportunities in what was arguably their best display of the season so far.
It is an ominous sign for their title rivals, as they cut Baroka to pieces at times, exposing gaping holes in the defence with slick passing and intelligent movement.
They took an early lead inside three minutes when Motjeka Madisha converted from the penalty spot following a foul on Sibusiso Vilakazi.
Percy Tau then laid on a simple tap-in chance for Themba Zwane to double the score just before the half-hour mark.
Tau provides a neat finish himself two minutes into the second period as Sundowns sealed the points, and the Bafana Bafana striker netted his second when Khama Billiat's ball into the box was turned into the net.
Sundowns have 19 points from 10 games, the same number of points as both Baroka and Orlando Pirates from 13 matches, but The Brazilians have a vastly superior goal-difference.
Pirates drew 0-0 with SuperSport United at the Orlando Stadium, though both teams had a number of excellent chances to win the game.
Thabiso Kutumela missed the best for Pirates when his shot struck the outside of the post, while Jeremy Brockie did likewise for SuperSport with a stretch for a cross.
Defender Clayton Daniels blazed over from six yards when it seemed easier to score, while youngster Tebogo Mokoena shot wide when well-placed.
It was a highly entertaining encounter that was let down by some woeful finishing from both sides as 29 shots at goal in the game failed to find the back of the net.
Cape Town City let a goal lead slip as they went down to 4-2 to Maritzburg United, who finally found their scoring boots after over 16 hours of football without one of their own players finding the back of the net.
The match was a home fixture for City, but much to the annoyance of the club was played in Durban with no suitable stadia available in the Mother City.
Sibusiso Masina had put City ahead with a fine header, but three goals in 14 second-half minutes turned the tide in Maritzburg's favour.
Pogiso Sanoka netted the first as he turned the ball home at the back post after City goalkeeper Sage Stephens had missed his punch from a corner.
Two quick counters then led to the next two goals for Maritzburg, both scored by Mohau Mokate, who bagged his first two strikes of the season.
Lyle Lakay gave City some late hope with a fine strike from outside the box, but in the end they were left disappointed as Sphesihle Ndlovu added a fourth for United with his first career goal.
