D.C. United signs Venezuela midfielder Junior Moreno

D.C. United have acquired Venezuela international midfielder Junior Moreno, the MLS club announced on Tuesday.

The 24-year-old moves from Zulia in his homeland -- where he was captain and scored two goals in 2017 -- for an undisclosed fee.

After making his national team debut in a friendly against the United States in June, Moreno started World Cup qualifiers against Argentina and Uruguay.

"Junior has established himself in the Venezuelan national team because of his physical presence and ability to connect the game in the midfield," United GM Dave Kasper said in a statement..

"He is adept at reading the game, making quick transitions on both sides of the ball, and he will provide us with tactical flexibility with his ability to play both holding and central box-to-box midfield positions.

"Junior is arriving at a great age with international experience in both World Cup qualification and the Copa Libertadores, and we look forward to his future with our club."

Moreno is the second central midfielder to join D.C. United this offseason, after Costa Rica international Ulises Segura signed from Saprissa last month.

United has also added forward Darren Mattocks and a center-back in Frederic Brilliant, while also claiming Gonzalo Veron in the re-entry draft.
