Nathaniel Clyne makes comeback with Liverpool U23s after seven months out

Nathaniel Clyne made his first appearance in over seven months as he played 90 minutes for Liverpool's under-23 side on Sunday.

Clyne has not appeared in a competitive fixture for Liverpool at all this season due to a long-term back injury, but has recently returned to full training.

The right-back played the entirety of the U23s' 4-0 win over Stoke City, with coach Neil Critchley revealing the 26-year-old declined the chance to be substituted early.

"He has not played for seven months and the plan was to see how long he would go for. He kept putting his thumb up and saying he was okay," Critchley told the club's official website. "He obviously wanted to see out the 90 minutes, which was great for him. I thought he was a great example to our players in the way he managed himself during the game."

Liverpool won the Premier League 2 fixture with ease as Dominic Solanke netted a hat trick at St. George's Park.

Solanke, 20, is awaiting his first senior goal for Liverpool since his free transfer from Chelsea in the summer, but has made 20 appearances in total for Jurgen Klopp's side this season.

"They were terrific goals, proper striker's goals. You could see the confidence grow in him after his first goal with the right foot," Critchley said.

"All three --Joe [Gomez], Nathaniel and Dom -- were great examples for our players with the way they set the tone. It is great to see Nathaniel back and I'm sure all three will play a big part for the first team before the end of the season."

Meanwhile, a source has told ESPN FC that there is no movement on the status of Solanke's tribunal.

Due to Solanke being under the age of 24 and the fact Chelsea offered him a new contract, a tribunal will determine the fee Liverpool pay the Blues for the England youth international after the two clubs were unable to agree a price between themselves.

The Professional Football Compensation Committee will set Solanke's cost based on a number of factors, but a date for the hearing has yet to be confirmed.
