Two of the Ghana Premier League's unbeaten streaks were ended during the midweek standings, but there's no change at the top of the standings.

Ashanti Gold remain atop the pile despite their defeat by Liberty Professionals which ends their unbeaten streak, while WAFA's own three-year unbeaten run at home was halted by Medeama SC.

On current form, Ashanti Gold's clash against Liberty Professionals should have been a straightforward affair, with the latter yet to have won so far this season.

However, Kyei Baffour struck a winner which stunned Ashgold and gave coach Reginald Boateng the breathing space to mould his young squad.

For the Miners, Wednesday cuts their advantage over second-placed Medeama to three points, although the Tarkwa-based club have a game in hand.

Having equalled the undefeated home streak set by Berekum Arsenal between 2004 and 2007, WAFA were aiming to break the record on Wednesday, only for Medeama to stop their run at 46 matches.

Justice Blay cancelled out Charles Boateng's first-half goal before Kwesi Donsu scored the winner to hand WAFA their first loss since January 2015.

They've now scored sixteen goals in three goals at their Dormaa home including ten in the Ghana Premier League. Impressively, the goals have been spread through the squad, with 14-year-old Gideon Kyeremeh among the goalscorers on Wednesday.

Some of the division's traditional heavyweights demonstrated during the midweek games that they won't be content to sit back and let the new boys dominate the GPL this season.

On Wednesday, both Asante Kotoko and Hearts of Oak bounced back from flat weekend showings to secure big victories.

Kotoko beat Dwarfs 2-1 in Kumasi with Frederick Boateng scoring the winning goal off the bench as the Porcupine Warriors scored more than one goal in a game for the first time this season.

Finally, Hearts beat Wa All Stars 3-1 in Cape Coast to recover from their 3-0 loss at Berekum Chelsea on Sunday.

Both traditional giants are back in the top four, and did enough in midweek to suggest that they can yet mount a
