Leicester's £15m Chris Mepham bid rejected by Brentford - sources

PA Sport

Leicester City have had an improved bid of £15 million rejected by Brentford for defender Chris Mepham, sources have told ESPN FC.

Mepham is regarded as one of the best young defenders outside the Premier League after impressing for Brentford during the last 12 months.

The 20-year-old was rewarded for his fine form for Brentford by breaking into the Wales side under new manager Ryan Giggs, making his debut in March.

A number of clubs have been tracking Mepham during this summer's transfer window with both Leicester and Bournemouth seeing £12m offers turned down by Brentford.

Leicester are keen to lure Mepham away from Brentford and have come back with an improved offer of £15m for the centre-back which has again been rejected by the Championship club.

Brentford are reluctant to lose Mepham with the player still having four years to run on his current contract at Griffin Park.

It remains to be seen if Leicester or Bournemouth will come back again with new offers for Mepham before the transfer window closes on Thursday.
